There will be a Public Hearing/Special Meeting of the St. Francis City Council on Monday, September 16, at 7pm at the St. Francis Community High School auditorium for the purpose of considering an application to be submitted by the City of St. Francis to the Kansas Department of Commerce for Small Cities Community Development Block Grant funds. The City will be applying for up to $600,000 in grant funds to be used towards street improvements. Following the public hearing there will be a public forum to address citizen questions regarding the street improvements. The Council will also answer questions regarding the special election to be held on October 8 for the qualified voters of the City of St. Francis to consider a local 1% sales tax. The revenue from the sales tax will be applied to city infrastructure improvements, including streets and including payments on city general obligation bonds to be issued to finance such improvements, including the required matching funds for the Community Development Block Grant.
