Article 1 City Elections 

ARTICLE 1 CITY ELECTIONS 

6-101 CONDUCT OF ELECTIONS- The election of city officials shall be conducted in all respects, except K.S.A. 25-2108, as provided by the laws of Kansas governing the holding of city elections.

6-102 TERMS OF OFFICE- City officials will be elected to terms of staggered four year terms, with three council members elected during one election and two council members and the mayor elected at the other odd year election to occur on the second Tuesday of November with the newly elected city officials taking office on the second Monday in January following the certification of the November election for that office.

6-103 HOURS OF VOTING- At all city elections the polls shall be open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. unless different hours are set and publicly announced by the county election officer.

6-104 COMMENCEMENT OF TERMS OF OFFICE; OATH OF OFFICE- (a) The term of office for newly elected city officials shall commence on the second Monday in January following certification of election. 

(b) Every person elected or appointed to city office, before entering upon the duties of such office, shall take and subscribe an oath or affirmation as specified in K.S.A. 54-106, and amendments thereto, and every such oath or affirmation shall be filed with the city clerk. 6-105 NOMINATION PETITION- (a) Any person desiring to become a candidate for city office elected at large shall file with the county election officer before the filing deadline, established in K.S.A. 25-205, and amendments thereto, a declaration of candidacy on a form furnished by the county election officer as specified by the Secretary of State. The nomination petition must be signed by 25 of the qualified electors of the City of St. Francis, Kansas. (K.S.A. 25-2110; Code 2015)
